    Me again, (your DDMS spirit guide). The step up and walled end at around 14.40 was originally the top of a climbing way down, connecting to the lower part of D2 Vein now accessed via the ladder under the wooden bridge. For many years, a local outward-bound centre used to send the kids down there as it was an easy clamber. One day we came in and the whole lot had given way and blocked the rise! Fortunately it had self-choked in the tight bit near the bottom, but we installed timbers to prevent further movement. The wheelbarrow (always makes me smile when I see it) belonged to my auntie who died in 1986, it was in her shed in Darlington, and was going to be skipped, but I thought it might be useful (it was) when we were digging out the shaft under the bridge. It was subsequently moved inbye where it has remained ever since and acquired a modest sort of fame. It is possible that it originally came from the quarries at Holwick, as my uncle worked there between the wars. Keep up the good work folks!

    • @UKAbandonedMineExplores
      @UKAbandonedMineExplores 6 дней назад

      Ahh thanks, that's interesting to know when we next go there. Always found that bricked up bit a little strange.Think need to record there again as camera technology is much better since recorded this one. Thanks, that gives some history to the wheelbarrow for us too :). Want to get through the dig at some point, looks almost passable.

    • @user-gg2nc9fi4r
      @user-gg2nc9fi4r 5 дней назад

      @@UKAbandonedMineExplores Yes, the terminal collapse shouldn't take too much digging, just need to burrow down at the end and regain the level. Its a bit of a squeeze immediately inbye, then opens out and then, well, you'll see. I'd recommend stowing the muck in sandbags and using them to protect the approach under that wide shale roof beam. I'd do it myself but we seem to be busy elsewhere these days.

    The Tadcaster Brewery could refer to the Samuel Smith's brewery. Founded in 1758 it's allegedly Yorkshire's oldest brewery and predates the neighbouring John Smith's brewery by 94 years Although brewing of beer is supposed to have been taking place in Tadcaster since 1340 Very colourful and enjoyable explore with lots of potential to be Killed By Death (very kind of the sulphuric acid pools to highlight themselves in red) Thanks guys 👍

    Well done, good to see this mine portrayed in video. Upstairs is an absolute multi- level rabbit warren, with crosscuts and rises everywhere, looks like a ladder in plan. Speaking of ladders, that one by the blue pipe is 2/3 or one we 'liberated' from Whiteheaps mill in the mid-80's and cut into 3 joinable sections, to get it round some of the tight corners. The third section is in Prouds Sump (Hangingshaws L.) Shame to see the entrance dig so broken up, could definitely do with some TLC, but at least you have a 2nd exit! The kettles were often used by the miners to top-up their carbine [sic] lamps with water. I've a photo somewhere of Jackie Parmley with one at that mine with the hanging shovel. We put in the blue pipe to try to de-water the next section before the shaft with the long steel ladder (DDMS 2000) 😊

    • @UKAbandonedMineExplores
      @UKAbandonedMineExplores 7 дней назад

      Aha, you did it, well done :). Nice to know the ladders are all related lol. We actually have a 2nd video where we got past the big sump in that workings (Beyond the impassable shaft) if you want to see past there, assuming you've not been there. Yes, tried to get through that wet section, but my feet left the floor and I can't swim. A dig in the other mine is collapsing and making the large ladders beyond difficult to access from that direction too.
